Dr. Brenden Calio, DC
Hi, I’m Dr.Brenden, born and raised on Oahu. Here is a quick story about my journey and why I am so passionate about helping as many people as I can through Chriopractic care. I was one of those sickly kids who ended up getting a bunch of ear infections, monthly flu’s, depressed, had insomnia and couldn’t seem to learn things as quick as other kids.
Fast forward to college was when my body really started feeling the negative effects of having many car accidents, years of eating poorly, and lack of sleep. On top of having insomnia, depression, and constantly getting sick, I also started having excruciating back pain. This was the biggest blessing in disguise. It was like my body was setting off “Alarms” telling me my body needed help, I just didn’t know what to do to fix things.
After finishing college at UH Manoa, I had an eye-opening moment where I knew I needed to do something about my health. I remember my phone was ringing on my bed, I reached over to grab it and my “back gave out on me.” I ended up on the ground not knowing what just happened. That was when a friend recommended I see a Chiropractor. I had no idea how this would help me but I decided to give it a shot.
After receiving a few adjustments I noticed that my body felt different. I was sleeping better, felt like I was happier, able to retain information better, and my back wasn’t bothering me anymore. Being so moved I wanted to share this with the world. I decided to go to Chiropractic school in California to learn how to help others through Chiropractic.
Once Chiropractic school was over, I opened up a practice in California. This is where I noticed a few problems while helping people. Many people didn’t have enough time in their schedule, were too busy with everyday life, couldn’t make appointments when they needed it the most due to not feeling up to par. Things needed to change. After thinking about how to improve things, when I moved back to Hawaii and I decided that being a “House Call” chiropractor could provide the convenience that patients have been searching for.
Dr. Charlene Poderoso, DC
At 17 years old, I saw how my mom’s debilitating low back pain was affecting her home and work life. Not only was her pain causing physical stress on her body, but it also created emotional and financial stress for her and our family. I tried to convince my mom to make an appointment with a chiropractor but she “didn’t believe” in chiropractic. After months of trying traditional medical treatments, her frustration and suffering grew stronger. I couldn’t stand to see my mom miserable anymore and decided to take matters into my own hands. I tricked her into seeing a chiropractor.
I saw a new found hope in my mom’s eyes once she started chiropractic care. Instead of chasing after my mom’s symptoms, our chiropractor addressed the ROOT CAUSE of her health problems. She was able to go back to work, walk her dogs around the park, and enjoy time with our family without being bent over in pain. In addition to her body being able to heal, feel, and function better, her quality of life grew exponentially.
Watching my mom’s health transformation inspired me to become a chiropractor. I attended University of California, Irvine for to receive my Bachelor of Science in Biology and Life Chiropractic College West for my Doctorate in Chiropractic. I received Clinical Honors during my internship at the Health Center, provided chiropractic services on mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and served as the Student Director for the California Chiropractic Association. Outside of school, I committed to enhancing my expertise by attending seminars regarding biophysics, upper cervical techniques, nutrition, and communication.
Throughout my journey, I have become passionate about working with families because I’ve witnessed firsthand how someone’s stress doesn’t just affect them; it significantly impacts their loved ones as well. Being a House Call Chiropractor gives me the opportunity to spend more time with my patients to help discover and correct the underlying cause of their health problems. I strive to help people live a more connected, happier and more vibrant life.
